Learning Through Encounter: Visit to the Islamic Cemetery in Altach
At first glance, it may seem unusual to organise a guided tour at a cemetery 🪦 But the Islamic cemetery in Altach is far more than just a burial place. It is a symbol of dialogue, recognition, and community. 🌿
After many years of discussions and collaboration between municipalities, religious representatives, and local institutions, the cemetery was opened in 2012 as a shared place for Muslims in Vorarlberg. ☪️
Today, it is one of just two Islamic cemeteries in Austria.and was won several awards for Architecture for its remarkable concept and design. 🏛️
During our visit, Dr. Eva Grabherr from okay zusammen leben guided us through the cemetery and shared valuable insights into Islamic traditions, rituals, and the history behind this special place. Eva guided us through the topic with openness, warmth, and great expertise. The tour was extremely well received by our international participants and sparked many thoughtful conversations and reflections. 🕊️ 🤝
